Johnson State College
Johnson, Vermont
In November 2004, Johnson State College retained JMZ Architects and Planners to develop a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan to guide the future development of the campus. Saucier + Flynn was assigned the task of examining the campus and providing insight with regard to the design and management of the landscape. Through a series of interviews, site visits and analytical studies, the landscape architects assessed the quality and character of the landscape noting those elements that help define its identity.
The landscape architects evaluated campus physical features such as soils, slope, hydrology, views and vegetation. They researched local and regional climate conditions and looked at the campus’s organizational structure, its buildings, open spaces and circulation systems. Based on the information gathered in these investigations, the landscape architects then collaborated with JMZ on the development of recommendations aimed at enhancing the campus and enriching its unique sense of place.
