Monadnock Mill District
Claremont, New Hampshire
The Monadnock Mill District is one of Claremont’s most important cultural resources. It is testimony to the City’s stoic heritage and prosperous past.
The successful restoration of the Mill District is critical to the redevelopment of the greater downtown and adjacent neighborhoods.
Since the key to sustained redevelopment often lies within a community’s borders, the Conceptual Master Plan outlines a strategy for forging dynamic working relationships between local entities such as the hospital, the community college, the local library, City government, the corporate sector and private entrepreneurs. The master plan envisions the development of a “downtown campus” anchored by the relocation of the Claremont Community College, currently located on the outskirts of the city. In addition, the plan identifies opportunity for the development of a student residence hall, a new library – to be shared by the College and the community – a boutique hotel, riverfront open space, a restaurant and new retail and commercial space.
