Enhancement Plan
Lebanon Cemeteries
Lebanon, New Hampshire
The role of the cemetery in American culture has varied greatly over the years. In the latter half of the nineteenth century, American cemeteries were cherished as significant public spaces. By the middle of the twentieth century, however, the prestige of the cemetery had significantly declined. Today there is evidence that the social, political and economic values of the nation are shifting in a direction that once again may recognize the importance of American cemeteries.
Appreciating the importance of its cemeteries, the city of Lebanon, New Hampshire commissioned Saucier + Flynn to develop a cemetery enhancement plan. Looking at the community’s nine cemeteries, Saucier + Flynn created a comprehensive planning document to help the community identify its resources and direct its design and maintenance efforts.
